Last week, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore officially launched for Nintendo Switch. Now we could finally compare how well it did as compared to the original Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE on Wii U.
When Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE launched in Japan in 2015, it moved 23,806 copies in its first week. As for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore, it sold 18,797 copies during its first week. That’s a 21% decrease in launch sales.
Some speculate that the reason behind the drop could be because of other major releases on PlayStation 4 in the same week, as well as the censorship fiasco. In the last few years, Switch games that were originally on Wii U, such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, have sold better than their original counterparts, so the reasons above could have attributed to the weak sales.
