Creatures Inc., one of the three companies responsible for the Pokemon franchise, has announced a change in two of its key leadership positions.
As mentioned by Serebii.net’s webmaster Joe Merrick, Tsunekazu Ishihara and Hirokazu Tanaka have stepped down as CEO and President of Creatures Inc. respectively. They are succeeded by Yuji Kitano, serving as President & CEO, as well as Tomotaka Komura, serving as Executive Vice President. The updated appointments are present on Creatures Inc.’s website here.
The more recognizable of the two names is Tsunekazu Ishihara, who is the current President and CEO of The Pokemon Company and has appeared in a number of Pokemon Directs. Him stepping down from his position at Creatures Inc. could indicate that a change of leadership in The Pokemon Company is on the horizon. As for Hirokazu Tanaka, he previously worked on a number of game soundtracks such as Metroid, EarthBound, and Kid Icarus before joining Creatures. It is unknown what he will plan to do following his departure.
On the whole, it is not clear how this change in leadership will affect the franchise moving forward, if at all. Creatures Inc. is primarily responsible for the Trading Card Game and 3D assets for the franchise, and the impact of the change will likely be limited to those areas.
