Two years ago, Amazon and Nintendo teamed up to bring the livestream platform Twitch to Switch, allowing console owners to watch their favorite esports and casual gaming livestreams on their device.
Unfortunately, Amazon has now announced that they will be removing the app from the Switch eshop in January of next year. This information comes from an email that is reportedly being sent out to users, which was first shared on a ResetERA thread as follows:
Hello,
We are reaching out to let you know that we have made the hard decision to remove the Twitch App from the Nintendo Switch. The app will be removed January 31, 2024.
Thank you for supporting Twitch streamers and communities on the Nintendo Switch. For more Twitch content, please visit https://www.twitch.tv/ on your browser or https://www.twitch.tv/downloads for the Twitch App on other devices.
Thank you,
-Twitch
Given that many users in the original thread expressed surprise that a Twitch app on Switch existed, the app probably did not see that many downloads or uses during its time on the console. Evidently Amazon did not see any reason to continue supporting the app any longer, resulting in its imminent removal.
