The slowdown of print media has unfortunately claimed two more victims from the games industry.
Games™ and GamesMaster are now in the process of publishing their final issues – which will release 1st November 2018. Both magazines ran for 16 and 25 years, respectively.
Their current publisher, Future, gave the following press statement:
“Despite the company’s strong performance overall, unfortunately games™ and GamesMaster are no longer profitable parts of the business, which means that their next issues, on sale November 1st, will be the final editions,”
“The decision was an extremely difficult one, but everyone here is enormously proud of what the magazines have achieved in their lifetimes – an incredible 25 years in GamesMaster’s case – and we are currently redeploying affected staff within the company.”
It’s a pretty sad day for fans of traditional news-stand gaming publications. Let’s hope Future’s remaining magazines (like EDGE) don’t get axed that soon.
