Users Report Error 2206-1015 After Switch 20.0.0 Update, Potential Workaround Found

Some Nintendo Switch owners are reporting an issue with their console after updating their system to firmware 20.0.0.

After updating their Nintendo Switch, the console fails to power on and a message with error code 2206-1015  is displayed.

Currently, Nintendo is investigating the issue behind the error. While there’s no official solution at this point of time, it may be possible to fix it by following these steps, which worked for some users:

  1. Ensure the console is powered off (If the console does not respond, hold down the POWER Button for twelve seconds to force it to shut down).
  2. With the console powered off, press and hold down the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons, then press the POWER Button to turn the console on.
  3. Keep holding down the volume buttons until the menu for recovery mode appears.
  4. Once in recovery mode, select “Restore Factory Settings Without Deleting Save Data”.
  5. Read through the information, then select “Next” > “Restore Factory Settings Without Deleting Save Data”.
