Videos: Majora’s Mask Glitch That Can Warp Players Directly To The Final Dungeon Or Developer Test Room
Recently, Majora’s Mask players discovered a new trick which allows them to warp directly to the game’s final dungeon, or to other strange places such as the developer test room.
The glitch uses a technique called State Reference Manipulation (SRM). SRM was originally discovered in Ocarina of Time as a way to manipulate the contents of treasure chests by executing a series of specific actions (e.g. moving a rupee around, dropping bombs).
In Majora’s Mask, SRM can be used to alter the location value of the last save point players saved at, allowing them to change the place they appear in when they reload.
The most obvious application of this for Majora’s Mask is in speedrunning by warping directly to the final dungeon. Last month, speedrunner Exodus122 published a video illustrating the exact (and extremely complicated) steps needed to do just that:
More recently, Youtuber Seedborn discovered how to use this glitch to warp into a Developer Test Room in the Japanese version of the game, which you can view below:
One wonders what other interesting places the glitch would allow players to warp to, provided the perfect conditions are met.
