Welcome To The NintendoSoup Family, 任天汤

Today, we are happy to announce a new addition to the NintendoSoup family – 任天汤!

任天汤 (pronounced as Ren Tian Tang in Chinese) is a brand new Chinese website for Nintendo fans living all over the world.

任天汤 will serve Chinese speaking fans (both Simplified and Traditional Chinese!) with daily Nintendo news, reviews, guides, and many more things that we have over at NintendoSoup.

We decided to name it 任天汤 because…

1. 任天堂 (Ren Tian Tang) is Nintendo’s official name in Chinese (and Japanese, they don’t sound the same when spoken though).

2. 汤, which means soup in Chinese, sounds identical to 堂 in Chinese. So we swapped out 堂 for 汤! To put it in simple terms, 任天堂 = NintendoSoup in Chinese.

Following the naming convention of many other popular Chinese websites, we decided to go with rtsoup.com as 任天堂’s official domain name. “rt” is an abbreviation of 任天 (Ren Tian) in Chinese, and soup is well, soup..

And that wraps up the basics! Let’s move on to the questions…

Why 任天汤?

Ever since the launch of Nintendo Switch in March 2017, we have observed an increasing interest in not only Nintendo Switch but other Nintendo franchises in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. China in particular stood out the most because unlike Hong Kong and Taiwan, Nintendo has absolutely zero presence there, and yet Nintendo Switch is growing strength by strength each day. Thus when the opportunity arose, we strongly felt it was time to serve and help spread the Nintendo message in the Chinese speaking world.

Who will run 任天汤?

We recruited Huang Qi, a long time Chinese Nintendo and Pokemon fan, to help lead and manage 任天汤’s day-to-day operations. As Editor-in-Chief, Huang Qi will oversee news reporting, guides, reviews, editorial direction, and other aspects of the site. Of course, 任天汤’s editorial team will be expanded over the next few months. Keep a look out for opportunities!

Are 任天汤 and NintendoSoup the same entity?

Both 任天汤 and NintendoSoup are owned and managed by NintendoSoup Group. So technically speaking, both websites are owned by the same entity but operate separately with different staff. While 任天汤 and NintendoSoup will have different editorial direction and content, you may see both sites exchanging or sharing content, such as game reviews or features.

That’s probably all of the questions we have answered for today!

Once again, we would like to thank everyone for supporting NintendoSoup. We’ve grown so fast and it’s all thanks to you.

If you’re a Chinese speaker, welcome aboard 任天汤! We hope to see you around soon.
