Nintendo has launched a firmware update for the Wii U, the predecessor to their smash hit hybrid console the Nintendo Switch.
This is notably the first firmware update released for the Wii U for the year 2022, and brings it up to Version 5.5.6 U. According to Nintendo’s official patchnotes, the update primarily includes “improvements to overall system stability”.
Ver. 5.5.6 U (August 29th, 2022)
- Improvements to system stability and usability
- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Currently, this is the only information about the update that is available. However, some folks such as well-known dataminer OatmealDome have speculated that this may also be related to the recent shutdown of adding funds on the Wii U eShop, given the timing of the update’s release.
We’ll report back if we hear more in the future. Stay tuned.
