Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer Debuted To Massive Positive Reception Overall
Last week, Nintendo released the first teaser trailer for the animated Super Mario Bros. movie, giving us our first proper look at the film since its initial announcement a few years back.
According to outlet VGC, the teaser has received a largely positive reception overall. They analyzed the trailer’s performance on five different Youtube channels: Illumination, Nintendo of America, Universal Pictures UK, Universal Pictures Australia and Movie Trailers Source, and found that across the combined 23 million views, the trailer received 774,447, versus 37,075 dislikes.
Based on the ratio of likes to dislikes, this means that the trailer has a 95.4% positive response. This is an impressive figure considering that many fans were skeptical about the potential of the film due to the casting as well as the choice of animation studio.
In comparison, when the first trailer for the Sonic The Hedgehog movie reached 12 million views, it reportedly had around 166,000 likes and 254,000 dislikes, only a 39% positive response. That said, this was mostly due to the “ugly Sonic” design used in that original trailer, and the newer trailer with his updated design brought it back up to 97.7% positive rating.
However, what we saw was just a teaser of what’s to come, and it remains to be seen whether opinions will shift as the film gets closer to release. Stay tuned for more as it comes.
