Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Now Top-Selling Game Of 2024 In Japan
Famitsu has revealed that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has set a new sales record in Japan.
According to Famitsu‘s data, the game is now the best-selling game of 2024 in Japan, barely a week after its release. The Switch version of the game sold 641,195 copies and was the highest selling game of the week, while the PS5 version was in second place at 180,575 copies. Both versions have a combined sales figure of 821,770 copies, which is over 10 times the sales numbers of every other game on the top 10 list combined. The real figure is in reality even higher, as it does not include sales on Steam and XBox.
This number also sets a new record for developer Square Enix, being the company’s most successful launch in Japan since Dragon Quest XI back in 2007. It is a testament to how popular the Dragon Quest series is in Japan, despite being slightly less well known in the west.
