It looks like Final Fantasy fans and younger kids are possibly in for a new way to enjoy the classic Final Fantasy IX.
According to a report from Kidscreen, Square Enix and Paris-based Cyber Group Studios have inked a new deal to produce an animated series based on the PlayStation-era RPG. More specifically, the show will be aimed towards younger audiences aged 8 to 13 years old.
While the show is hardly in production yet, Cyber Group Studios CEO Pierre Sissmann has stated that his company is now writing up a project bible, and will start pitching it to broadcasters in the next few months. Cyber Group Studios’ goal is apparently to begin production on the show by late 2021 or early 2022.
As Final Fantasy enthusiasts know, Final Fantasy IX follows the adventures of the Thief Zidane – who kidnaps the Princess Garnet but ends up teaming up with her to save their world from an evil plot. Currently, we don’t know how much of the planned show will follow the game’s story.
We’ll report back if we hear more in the future. Stay tuned!
