Hidden Palace recently announced that they have a speedy new entry to their gaming archives.
A prototype of Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA Mega Drive has been found and it now part of the Hidden Palace archive collection. Hidden Palace is a community dedicated to preservation of digital media that has been searching for this prototype since they were founded in 2006.
Their post on Twitter details how the names of levels in the game differs from the official release version of the game. These prototype titles include CLOCK WORK ZONE, SPARKLING ZONE, UFOs, RING and more.
Some of the game mechanics are also different such as Sonic being placed at the top of the level upon death instead of losing a life. Hidden Palace has an article featuring all the differences that were found and screenshots from the game itself.
