Animal Crossing: New Horizons Receives New Details About Neighbours, Nook Phone And More

Following the big reveal of Animal Crossing: New Horizons during Nintendo’s E3 Presentations, some new details about its characters and gameplay have surfaced through gaming news outlet IGN.

Down at E3, IGN sat down with Animal Crossing: New Horizon developers Aya Kyogoku and Hisashi Nogami to find out more about the upcoming Switch entry to the Animal Crossing series. Kyogoku and Nogami shared a great deal of info about the game, including details about Islanders, Tom Nook’s resident services, Pocket Camp connectivity and more.

Check out the highlights below:

Neighbours & Islanders

  • You’ll start with two or so neighbors
  • Before they choose a spot for their home, these two neighbors will check with you to see if it’s okay
    • If you don’t like where they’ve chosen, you can pick a spot for them
  • The islanders that move onto the island with you at the start can’t be forced off, but they might leave on their own
  • There will be a system that gives an opportunity to invite animals to the island
  • There aren’t any new personality types.
  • There are new ways to improve your friendship with Islanders, like gifting them crafted items
  • Islanders can teach you new DIY recipes
  • The animals who join you are also in debt to Tom Nook
    • All animals will pay their debt back to Tom Nook at their own pace

Tom Nook’s Resident Services & Nook Phone

  • Timmy and Tommy, and Tom Nook will already be on the island as well
  • Tom Nook has a place called Resident Services, and this is what all of his Bells go into
    • The purpose of these services are to “make sure that all the residents on the island are happy and are living a good life”
  • A New Currency called “Nook Miles” can be earned
    • Earned by completing achievements through activities such as fishing and crafting
    • Can be exchanged for special items and recipes
  • The Nook Phone will get new apps

Player Character & Gameplay

  • Some new elements in gameplay include building up the island, and building something from scratch
  • You can live in a tent forever if you’d like
  • There will be new hair and facial features to choose from
  • You can’t set up a tent on a friend’s island.
    • Only one island per system
  • Voice chat will probably be done through the Nintendo Switch Online app.

Pocket Camp Connectivity

  • There won’t be direct connectivity to Pocket Camp, but there will be collaborative items between the two

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is scheduled to launch 20 March 2020 on Nintendo Switch.
