James Wan teamed up with New Line Cinema to bring the live-action Mortal Kombat Movie reboot onto the big screens!
Aquaman director James Wan will be producing the movie reboot which is set to begin pre-production later this month. After-which, the filming will start off in South Australia with Australian crews expected to be utilized for the film.
Screenplay will be handled by Greg Russo (from the upcoming “Highwaymen”). And as for the director, Simon McQuoid, the award-winning commercial filmmaker, will be helming the project.
The live-action adaptation will also be Australian-made and, as such, will have the backing of the Australian federal government.
Steven Marshall, premier of South Australia, had this to say:
“’Mortal Kombat’ will be the largest film production in South Australia’s history and highlights the importance of engaging with the world’s major production houses. The state government’s investment in ‘Mortal Kombat’ will enhance the scope and reach of our production and post production capabilities, bringing the promise of fantastic new jobs for the local film industry.”
As of press time, not much have been revealed about the movie plot-wise as well as its release date.
