Atlus Wants To Make Shin Megami Tensei V Something That Is Completely New

In a recent Famitsu interview, Shin Megami Tensei V producer Yamai sat down to share some details on the development of the game.

As mentioned in the past, development for Shin Megami Tensei V has just kicked off, and the team already has some idea on how the game’s story and system will work.

Yamai says the team is aware of the three different generations of Shin Megami Tensei fans – those who played the NES/SNES versions and do not require fancy graphics, those who started from Shin Megami Tensei III and want to explore a 3D world on a home console, and finally, fans who started on either Shin Megami Tensei IV or IV Apocalypse, who enjoy the conversations between characters.

Yamai is aiming to make Shin Megami Tensei V a game enjoyable by all three generations, something that keeps up to the times and is completely new but fundamentally a Shin Megami Tensei-like game.

The first Shin Megami Tensei game released in the 1990s asked the question – “what would you do if the world did end?” This was something many people were saying before the year 2000 arrived. Yamai wants to incorporate the same element in Shin Megami Tensei V, but with topics that are relevant by the end of this decade, such as job hunting, post retirement, terrorism, and even the threat of nuclear war.

Shin Megami Tensei V is exclusively launching on Nintendo Switch. No launch window has been announced yet.
