Thanks to Nintendo’s promise to put more SNES Classic consoles out in the market, scalpers are having a less profitable time scalping the SNES Classic.
According to CNet (link), the NES Classic sold on eBay for $240 at launch last year even with a recommended price of $60, making them a tidy $180 profit. This year, however, scalpers are only able to sell the SNES classic at around $165 at launch, despite an increased price tag of $80.
Laughably, this drops their profit by more than half at $85.
On top of that, the scalper market for SNES Classic seemed to have slowed as well. From its peak of 240 units/hour on launch day to 90 units/hour over the launch weekend.
So it looks like things are really starting not to pay off for scalpers, at least as much. It also goes to show that Nintendo can do something about their stock issues if they really set their mind to it.
