Last week, Bayonetta 3 became a topic of controversy after the character’s original voice actress Hellena Taylor shared more details about why she did not return for the series’ 3rd installment, namely that Platinum Games was not offerring fair compensation for her work.
Today, Jennifer Hale, the new voice actress who was hired to replace Taylor in Bayonetta 3, has released her own statement about the matter. Although she could not reveal much due to her NDA, she asked that fans keep an “open mind” about the game and the work that was put into it as well as her hopes that the parties involved could “resolve their differences in an amicable and respectful way”.
For those who may not be aware, Jennifer Hale is a much more well-known voice actress compared to Taylor, having voiced Samus in Metroid Prime, Ashe in Overwatch, and many other roles in games and TV. Many fans believe that Platinum Games had already made plans to replace Taylor with a more well-known voice actress for the third game, and intentionally quoted her lower payment to force her to decline the role. However, Platinum Games themselves have yet to release any statement addressing the controversy, which means the above remains in the realm of speculation for now.
