Once upon a time, Mario Kart 64 sounded very, very different from what fans got to experience.
Recently, games preservation enthusiast Forest of Illusion tweeted out what seems to be a prototype title tune for the classic racing game – back when it was just in development as ‘Mario Kart R’. The track was likely just a mere placeholder, and it really shows. Take a listen for yourself below.
Not exactly that inspiring or blood-pumping, in our opinion. For comparison, here’s what Nintendo fans finally got when the game actually launched for Nintendo 64:
They pretty much sound like two completely games! As usual, it’s interesting to see how drastically some Nintendo titles evolve as they approach release – with Mario Kart 64 as no exception.
