We have a piece of good news for those of you who picked up a copy of Civilization VI for Nintendo Switch today.
It appears that the game supports cloud saves for everyone, not just Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Before you rejoice, there’s a huge catch to this.
In order to save your game to the cloud in Civilization VI, you’ll need to link your Nintendo Account to My2K. My2K is essentially an account system run by 2K Games. The only thing 2K Games receives is your birth date from your Nintendo Account, and from time to time they may send analytical data about how you play Civilization VI. You have the option to save locally or save to the cloud in the game itself.
So to sum it up, Civilization VI’s cloud saves is free for everyone, as long as you register a My2K account. The game does not support the native Save Data Cloud Backup feature Nintendo Switch Online members have access to.
