The Arc System Works data breach has confirmed several additional pieces of information on Game-Key Cards.
As reported earlier, Game-Key Cards have an internal codename called “POTION”, and in some cases they are also referred to as “0GB cartridges”.
Internal documentation confirms that Game-Key Card downloads work independently from the Nintendo eShop. What this means is you can still download the game even you live in a region that has no Nintendo eShop, and the Game-Key Card license isn’t tied to any Nintendo Account so it can be resold.
Also, it’s been confirmed that you have to keep the Game-Key Card inserted in the Nintendo Switch 2 console while downloading the game, and in order to play it, you have to insert it into the console. An Internet connection is only required when you download and play the game for the first time, after which it isn’t required and you can play the game offline as long as the Game-Key Card is inserted.
