In the latest Sakurai column from the Weekly Famitsu, we learned that a Day One patch is in the works for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Masahiro Sakurai said the Day One patch would be required for players who purchase the physical version of the game. No further action is required for those who download or pre-loaded the game. Unfortunately, Sakurai did not reveal what the Day One patch would add or change.
The director also added that players could save their Replays as videos, so they won’t be lost whenever you update the game.
