Detective Pikachu Comes To Pokémon GO Starting May 7th

Detective Pikachu is on the scene in Pokémon GO to celebrate the launch of the POKÉMON Detective Pikachu movie which releases May 10th.

From Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 1 p.m. PDT to Friday, May 17, 2019, at 1 p.m. PDT, look for Pikachu in a detective hat to start photobombing your GO Snapshot photos instead of Smeargle. And when it does, you’ll have the chance to catch this curious electric mouse.

Also, look for increased encounters with prominent Pokémon from the movie, including

Bulbasaur

Jigglypuff

Psyduck

Aipom

and Snubbull.

So not particularly rare Pokemon but you’ll also have a chance of finding Shiny Aipom.

And every Pokémon you catch in the wild will earn you double XP regardless if they are featured in the movie or not.

You’ll be able to participate in Raid Battles that challenge Pokémon featured in the film, as well as movie-inspired Field Research. We’re not sure what these Research Tasks could look like but the trailer shows Blastoise and Charizard battling as this announcement plays on the screen so it might involve challenging other trainers.

Movie-themed items will also be available in the Style Shop, including a detective hat with Pikachu ears and a T-shirt featuring the POKÉMON Detective Pikachu logo.
