To reach out to as many players as possible, Square-Enix has been in talks with Nintendo and Microsoft to get Final Fantasy XIV, a MMORPG game, to Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
The team at N4G recently traveled to Hamburg and interviewed Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida on the obstacles of getting the game on Nintendo Switch.
The first problem is that the game’s regular patch updates cannot be delayed on any platform. In Yoshida’s words, “We need to make sure Nintendo and Microsoft understand what we do and have them know about our online and QA regulations. We believe these conversations will take a long time.”
Shared responsibility is the second obstacle. Square-Enix, Nintendo, Sony, and possibly Microsoft will have to work together to grow and support the communities for the MMORPG. The discussion on shared responsibility is something which Yoshida doesn’t see ending soon.
