We have some unfortunate news to share regarding the upcoming release of Doom Eternal for the Switch.
Publisher Bethesda has released an official statement confirming that the physical release for Doom Eternal on Switch has been cancelled, and the game will now be digital-only. Customers affected by the cancellation will receive full refunds, and more information will be shared later this month.
“While Doom Eternal is 100% on track for an imminent digital-only release on Nintendo Switch, the absence of a physical release at retail resulted in cancelled pre-orders. Affected customers will receive full refunds and should contact their preferred retailer for more information. Stay tuned for much more information coming later this month.”
The statement was released after a series of reports surfaced that Gamestop was calling customers to tell them Doom Eternal for Switch was cancelled entirely, clarifying that this only applies to the physical version, while the digital version will release as planned. We will report back with more details on the situation as they come.
