In a press release from Square Enix today, the company announced Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age would be released on PS4 and Steam on September 4, 2018 in the west.
The announcement made zero mention about the Switch and 3DS versions of the game. According to IGN, the Switch version is still on the way and will definitely not release in 2018, while the 3DS version, which launched in Japan last year, will not be making it to the west.
Square Enix said from a “business point of view”, it made strategic sense to release the 3DS version in Japan, but it made the most sense to focus on PS4 and Steam in the west. Development is expected to take a long time for the Switch version from a technological standpoint.
