Square Enix has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest XI is based on the PS4 version of the game.
According to Dragon Quest XI producer Hokuto Okamoto, Okamoto said the development team is using the PS4 version as a base to build the Nintendo Switch version of the game. This would also mean the Switch version wouldn’t have any special features the Nintendo 3DS version has, such as retro 2D and 3D graphics. Unfortunately, the 3DS version wouldn’t be making it over to the west.
Okamoto also mentioned Square Enix was considering releasing the Switch version alongside the PS4 and PC versions of Dragon Quest XI. As the developers couldn’t gauge how long development would take, the company eventually decided not to hold back the PS4 and PC releases so fans wouldn’t have to wait too long.
Last but not least, Okamoto promised that the localization of the game wouldn’t be censored, including popular Dragon Quest phrases such as “puff puff”.
