The Pokemon Company and government of Fukui prefecture in Japan have announced Fukui’s first official Pokemon ambassador.
Starting today, the popular Pokemon Dragonite will be Fukui’s official Pokemon ambassador as part of the brand’s Pokemon Local Acts project. According to the official English site for the project, Dragonite was chosen due to the Fukui prefecture’s strong links to Dinosaurs and Dragons, being home to one of the world’s leading dinosaur museums and boasting many landmarks named after Dragons.
For the first stages of the collab, Dragonite themed utility hole covers will be introduced throughout the region in March 2024, including the Fukui cities of Katsuyama, Awara, and Echizen, as well as the towns of Eiheiji, Mihama, and Takahama. There will also be a Dragonite themed train rolled out in Early Summer 2024 on the Echizen Railway, stopping at landmarks like the Tojinbo Cliffs and the aforementioned Dinosaur Museum.
