Last month, Nintendo officially revealed the successor console to the Nintendo Switch, fittingly named “Nintendo Switch 2”.
Although many fans were somewhat disappointed in the console’s name, others appreciated the simplicity. This includes Ex-Playstation boss Shawn Layden, who shared his thoughts in an interview on ‘Kiwi Talkz’ hosted by Reece Reilly. When it was pointed out that Nintendo seemed to have taken a page out of Playstation’s book when it came to the Switch 2’s name, Layden praised the decision, citing the “brand value” Nintendo created with the Switch’s name.
“They’ve [Nintendo] created so much brand value in the word Switch, why would you mess with that?”
Layden also expects that Nintendo will continue to see success in the industry, respecting them as a competitor and a pioneer in the industry.
“Everyone respects Nintendo, they’re a competitor but you respect everything they’ve done to create this industry that now we all enjoy and love, so I think they’ll keep on keeping on and the way they do it, they’ve got the right people around it, the right attitude around it.”
“…they’ve been in this business a long time, they’ve seen all the peaks and valleys…they will continue to be successful”
