Fanmade Video Reimagines Pokemon Red As A HD-2D Game

The Pokemon Company has released a number of remakes for past Pokemon games, most of which take the approach of updating them to the prevailing graphics of the day, be it with better sprites such as with Firered/Leafgreen, or with a full 3D overhaul as with Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.

That said, a new concept of remake has recently become quite popular among fans, that being a HD-2D remake in the style of Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler and Live A Live remake. To that end, 3D pixel artist dott took it upon themselves to create a fan-made concept video showing what such a remake could look like, based on Pokemon Red, the game that started it all:

As you can see, the results look extremely impressive. Seeing Square Enix’s success with its HD-2D style, one wonders whether The Pokemon Company may be willing to dip its toes into this kind of remake in the future.

Should the next Pokemon remake attempt to emulate this style? Let us know in the comments.
