Following it’s release last week, the Five Night’s At Freddy’s Movie has broken several opening weekend records domestically and worldwide.
The highly anticipated movie achieved the second largest opening for a videogame adaptation of all time at $78 million in North America, which is just behind the Super Mario Bros. Movie at $146.3 million. However, the Five Night’s At Freddy’s film managed to beat the Mario movie on opening day itself, netting $39.5 million over the latter’s $32 million.
On the global stage, Five Night’s At Freddy’s became 2023’s second biggest horror film opening, grossing $52.6 million from foreign markets alone. Combined with the domestic figures, this means that the movie has grossed over $130 million overall, more than making back it’s $20 million dollar budget.
That said, this is only the beginning of the film’s time at the theaters, and it will be interesting to see how it fares moving forward. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
