A few years back, we learned that Nintendo’s original Kyoto headquarters was going to be refurbished into a hotel, which was originally planned to open sometime last year.
Since then, the new hotel has finally opened its doors to the public, now going by the name “Marufukuro”, which was the original name of the playing card company founder by Fusajiro Yamauchi that would eventually become Nintendo.
As detailed on the hotel’s official website, its concept aims to blend together the building’s “old-time” ambience, with a more modern approach.
Kagiyacho, Kyoto – tracing back to 1889, there stood the very first head office of Nintendo. The landmark is once again brought back to life, transformed into the brand-new hotel “Marufukuro”.
With a newly-built annexe designed by Tadao Ando, Marufukuro brings an old-time stately ambience and a modern approach together.
The hotel’s design also incorporates a lot of Nintendo’s history, with displays featuring the playing cards it produced as well as several game consoles. More details about the hotel and its amenities can be found on its website here.
