Earlier this year, Nintendo set a tough but achievable goal for this fiscal year – to sell 20 million Nintendo Switch consoles by the end of March 2019.
So, where’s Nintendo now? As of September 30, 2018, the company has moved 5 million Nintendo Switch consoles. This means it has 6 more months to sell 15 million consoles, which may seem close to impossible to achieve.
While many analysts believe Nintendo will fall short on their goal, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa believes it is achievable, saying that everything has been in line with their expectations and the lucrative holiday season, where the company performs the best, has not arrived yet.
Here are his full words:
“The Switch’s momentum has been in line with our expectations. While the 20 million goal is not an easy target to achieve, the year-end holiday season is when we get the largest revenue.”
