Game Review: Fast Fusion (Nintendo Switch 2)

Munich, a beautiful city in Germany, is well known for its beer festival Oktoberfest and its tasty beer – but will you think of Munich when you hear “future racer” or “FAST”?! No? You remember Shin’En Multimedia? Yes? Shin’En Multimedia is an independent video game developer and it’s based in Munich. And yes, they are really famous among gamers! Shin’En Multimedia was founded in 1999 and they did what the Nintendo fans wanted for a long time – they made a future racer which can compete with the beloved F-Zero series.

But we all know that F-Zero GX on the Gamecube was the last title of the series and Nintendo has still no plans to make a new F-Zero game… but Shin’En did! And the „FAST“ series is (almost!) as good as the F-Zero series. They saw the tears of the Nintendo fans and wanted to make a great future racer. And yes, it was successful!

Fast Fusion is their newest baby and it’s a launch title for the new Switch 2 like its predecessor FAST RMX on the Switch was. And it’s a big evolution! It’s fast as hell -yes, we already know it- but now you can jump! Yes, JUMP! A future racer with a jump button – sounds crazy? It is! You get complete new gameplay mechanics now – because of the jump feature you can find new short cuts on the tracks and reach the goal quicker and quicker. And Shin’En Multimedia made their things right – you can control the vehicle on its jump perfectly, despite of the stunning high speed.

“But does this game look good on the new console?” – It runs at up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second and supports HDR. And the tracks are beautiful!

“And the other technical side? Does it work?” – It also supports motion control and HD Rumble and includes a four-player split screen mode.
You see, Shin’En Multimedia didn’t only want to make a fast game, no, this game is a great technical experience, too! And the soundtrack is superb, too. Well done, Shin’En!

And that’s not enough – Fast Fusion supports local and online multiplayer and the new GameChat mode on Switch 2. A nice great package!

But what do you have to do in Fast Fusion? The heart of the game is the challenging league mode – ten players fight for the title and it’s not easy to beat the strong computer players. You have to show all your strength and you have to jump a lot to find the short cuts to get to the first place. You can start as a beginner and you have to end as a professional to get the whole glory. You can also choose the „super hero mode“ which also mirrors the courses to offer another layer of challenge to test players. Or you go to the time attack mode to beat the ghosts of the developer and to practice your skills.

Fast Fusion is fast, it is challenging, it is a future racer with a jump button -yes, again, JUMP!- and it looks beautiful – Shin’En did really a great job. You can buy it on the eShop and it isn’t expensive! Get it!

Verdict: This game makes your soup quickly hot and you will jump around in your kitchen!
