In an interview with Comicbook.com, Detective Pikachu writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit revealed two more Pokemon that were planned to be included, but ultimately cut from the final film.
Joining Smeargle, Meowth and Garbodor on the cutting room floor are Gen 1 veteran Golbat and fan-favorite Gardevoir. According to Hernandez and Samit, the two had some interesting plans for scenes involving both Pokemon, although they unfortunately did not share much details.
Hernandez: “For a while, we had a cool sequence with a Golbat that I really liked. That was a really cool sequence that just didn’t quite make it to the end of the process.”
Samit: “Gardevoir had a cool moment. There were so many different, all the different drafts along the way…”
With only this small snippet to go on, we can only wonder what realistic versions of Golbat and Gardevoir may have looked like, or what cool scenes the writers had in mind for them. If the rumors of a Pokemon cinematic universe are true, perhaps we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
