Earlier last month, Youtube channel Goldencube007 uploaded one of Goldeneye’s original 1997 beta trailers, giving us a look at how the game could have turned out had its development gone differently.
Today, Goldeneye 007 is renowned and revered by gamers everywhere as one of the classics in the first person shooter genre. However, what some might not have known was that the game was originally planned to be an on-rails shooter, similar to the likes of Time Crisis and Virtua Cop. Instead of having free-roam over the level, the player would have been forced to travel along a set path and shoot at targets that popped up.
In this original Beta Trailer from 1997, we catch a glimpse of what this earlier version of Goldeneye looked like before it was retooled into the version we know today.
What do you think? Would Goldeneye 007 still be as fondly remembered if it had gone down this path? Let us know in the comments below.
