Guide: All You Need To Know About Mario Kart World’s New Items

Mario Kart World features a couple of new items, but do you know what’s the best way of using them to win?

In this guide, we will be introducing these new items and sharing tips on how you can use them to your advantage.

1. Coin Shell

The Coin Shell is a golden Koopa Shell. It is a rare item that you can get when you are far behind in the race (16th – 24th). When a Coin Shell is used, it will travel at a fast speed along the track, leaving a trail of coins behind its wake. Eventually, it’ll explode into a ring of 8 coins.

The best way of using this item is by shooting it at someone that is right in front of you, so that you can not only attack somebody, but also collect a bunch of coins to increase your speed.

Keep in mind that other players can steal coins that are left behind by the Coin Shell.

2. Kamek

A purple crystal ball represents Kamek. This item can be pulled from 12th to 24th place. Use this crystal ball to summon Kamek, and it’ll turn players ahead of you in the race into a random obstacle character (this will help them unlock that character in their roster), as well as summon a bunch of random obstacle enemies on the course.

You should consider using Kamek in narrow sections of the track. That way, players will get hit by these obstacle enemies, slowing them down in the process.

3. Coin Box (new to console entries)

The Coin Box is an item new to the Mario Kart series on consoles. When you get this item, you should hit it as many times as you can before it disappears. You’ll get 1 coin each time you hit the box, and a few coins will scatter around you for other players to pick up.

4. Hammer (new to console entries)

The Hammer is an item new to the Mario Kart series on consoles. It is a common item that you can get from 6th to 12th place. You can throw five hammers in an arc forward or backward multiple times, and if they don’t hit anybody, they’ll get stuck onto the road for a brief moment. Players will spin out if they get hit by the hammers or drive into them.

It’s best to use this item when there are multiple players in front of you. Keep in mind that the hammers are thrown in an arc, so they won’t land on vehicles that are too close to you.

5. Feather (new to Grand Prix, Knockout Tour, and Versus)

While the Feather appeared in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Battle Mode, it was never usable in Grand Prix and other modes. This time round, the Feather can be used to jump. By jumping, you can dodge incoming red/green shells, jump on track obstacles or other karts to trick off them, ride on a wall or on a rail, or hit question mark blocks in the air.

How to best use this item depends on what’s going on around you in the track. For instance, if there are nearby walls or rails that you can ride on, you can use the feather to jump and drive on them. If there’s an incoming red shell that you can’t dodge with other items, you can also use the feather to dodge.

In the worst case scenario, you can simply use the feather to jump onto or over a course obstacle (such as a car, bus, Goomba, etc) or another player to trick off them for a speed boost.

Conclusion
