Guide: Where To Find All New Galar Pokemon In Pokemon Sword/Shield

Pokemon Sword And Shield introduce a number of brand new Pokemon and Regional variants to the series, which are one of the highlights of every new generation of Pokemon.

In order to help players who may be having trouble finding the new critters, we have put together a guide showing  where you can catch the first stage of each new Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Sword And Shield.

This includes brand new Pokemon, as well as the Galarian regional variants of old Pokemon. Legendary locations are also included after the spoiler warning.

New Pokemon Locations

  • Grookey, Scorbunny, And Sobble (Starters)
    • Choose one at the start of the game, trading is required to obtain the ones that were not picked.
  • Skwovet –> Greedent
    • Can be found on Route 1 as a common overworld encounter.
  • Rookidee –> Corvisquire –> Corviknight
    • Can be found on Route 1 as a common overworld encounter.
  • Blipbug –> Dottler –> Orbeetle
    • Can be found on Route 1 in the tall grass.
  • Nickit –> Theivul
    • Can be found on Route 1 as a very rare overworld encounter.
    • Appears more frequently in the Dusty Bowl Wild Area.
  • Gossifleur –> Eldegoss
    • Can be found on Route 2 as an overworld encounter.
  • Wooloo –> Dubwool
    • Can be found on Route 1 as a rare overworld encounter
  • Chewtle –> Drednaw
    • Can be found on Route 2 as an overworld encounter.
  • Yamper –> Boltund
    • Can be found on Route 2 as a very rare overworld encounter.
    • Is more common on Route 4.
  • Rolycoly –> Carkol –> Coalossal
    • Pops up on Route 3 near to the Galar Mine.
  • Applin –> Flapple/Appletun
    • Can be found on Route 5 as a rare encounter in the tall grass.
  • Silicobra –> Sandaconda
    • Can be found on Route 6 in the tall grass.
  • Cramorant
    • Can be found on Route 9 in the tall grass.
  • Arrokuda –> Barraskewda
    • Can be found on Route 2 very rarely by Fishing (Rod should already be in your bag at the start of the game).
    • Is easier to fish up in Hulbury (Water Gym City).
  • Toxel –> Toxtricity
    • Received as a gift in the Route 5 Daycare.
  • Sizzlipede –> Centiskorch
    • Can be found on Route 3 as a very rare encounter in the tall grass.
    • Can also be caught as part of the Fire Gym’s challenge.
  • Clobbopus –> Grapploct
    • Can be found on Route 9 as an overworld encounter.
  • Sinistea –> Polteageist
    • Can be found in the Glimwood Tangle as a rare encounter in the tall grass.
  • Hatenna –> Hattrem –> Hatterene
    • Can be found in the Motostoke Outskirts Wild Area as a rare overworld encounter.
    • Is easier to find in the Stony Wilderness.
  • Impidimp –> Morgrem –> Grimmsnarl
    • Can be found in the Glimwood Tangle by touching the glowing mushroom at the start.
  • Milcery –> Alcremie
    • Can be found on Route 4 as a rare encounter in the tall grass.
  • Falinks
    • Appears on Route 8 marching across the paths.
  • Pincurchin
    • Can be found on Route 9 in the tall grass as a very rare encounter.
  • Snom –> Frosmoth
    • Can be found on Route 8 as a common overworld encounter.
  • Stonjourner
    • Can be found on Route 10 as a very rare encounter (Sword Only).
  • Eiscue
    • Can be found on Route 10 as a very rare encounter (Shield Only).
  • Indeedee
    • Can be found in the Glimwood Tangle as a rare encounter in the tall grass.
  • Morpeko
    • Can be found on Route 7 as a rare overworld encounter.
  • Cufant –> Copperajah
    • Can be found in the Bridge Field Wild Area as a rare overworld encounter.
  • Dracozolt, Arctozolt, Dracovish, Arctovish
    • Obtained by reviving different combinations of Fossils with the Fossil Lady on Route 6.
    • Fossils can be found in the Dusty Bowl Wild Area as random items on the ground.
  • Duraludon
    • Can be found on Route 10 as a very rare encounter.
  • Dreepy  –> Drakloak –> Dragapult
    • Can be found in the Lake Of Outrage Wild Area as a very rare overworld encounter.

Galarian Form Pokemon Locations

  • Meowth –> Purrserker
    • Can be found on Route 4 as an overworld encounter.
  • Ponyta –> Rapidash (Galarian)
    • Can be found in the Glimwood Tangle as a rare encounter in the tall grass (Shield Only).
  • Farfetch’d –> Sirfetch’d 
    • Can be found on Route 5 as a rare overworld encounter (Sword Only).
  • Koffing –> Wheezing (Galarian)
    • Can be found in the Dusty Bowl Wild Area as an overworld encounter.
  • Mr.Mime –> Mr.Rime
    • Can be found on Route 10 as and overworld encounter.
  • Corsola –> Cursola
    • Can be found in the Giant’s Mirror Wild Area as an overworld encounter when overcast (Shield Only).
  • Zizagoon –> Linoone –> Obstagoon
    • Can be found on Route 2 as a common overworld encounter.
  • Darumaka –> Darmanitan (Galarian)
    • Can be found on Route 8 as a very rare overworld encounter (Sword Only).
  • Yamask –> Runegrigus
    • Can be found on Route 6 as an overworld encounter.
  • Stunfisk
    • Can be found in Galar Mine 2 by stepping on the Pokeball-like objects on the ground.

Legendary Pokemon Locations

  • Zacian (Sword) OR Zamazenta (Shield)
    • Caught after completing the Post-Game story.
    • Post-Game story begins after visiting the Slumbering Weald once player is Champion.
    • Players can only obtain their version legendary, not the other one.
  • Eternatus
    • Caught during the main story.
