On this day 129 years ago, Nintendo, a Hanafuda manufacturing company, was founded by a hardworking Japanese man called Fusajiro Yamauchi who wanted to make the highest quality Hanafuda cards.
Throughout its long history, Nintendo has prided themselves in making the best products that entertain the masses, from the Ultra Hand to a Laser Clay Shooting System. They even experimented with love hotels and instant rice, but those products flopped.
The company’s fortunes changed with the introduction of portable gaming device Game & Watch and video game system Famicom (Family Computer) / Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). In the 1980s and 1990s, Nintendo cemented their grip on the video game industry with popular franchises such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, and Metroid.
While Nintendo has seen many ups and downs throughout their history of making video games, the company’s fortunes are looking better than ever with the arrival of Nintendo Switch.
