On September 23, 1889, a company called Nintendo was founded in Kyoto, Japan.
Nintendo was founded by a businessman called Fusajiro Yamauchi. Yamauchi wanted to make the best playing cards for the Japanese market. Nintendo’s Hanafuda cards became an instant hit among the Japanese and the company soon started making other types of playing cards featuring characters from IPs such as Disney.
As the decades passed, Nintendo ventured into other businesses but wasn’t very successful at them. These include a taxi business, instant rice business, and even love hotels. But fortune would soon change Nintendo’s fate after the successful launch of the Game & Watch and Famicom video game systems.
The rest, was history – Nintendo became the largest gaming company in the world, and continues to put smiles on the faces of people with their amazing games.
