Japan: Man Arrested For Selling Modded Super Famicom Classic Mini Consoles

Japanese police have arrested a 39 year old man named Tomoyuki Miyamoto for selling modded Super Famicom Classic Mini consoles to three people.

According to a report by Asahi, Miyamoto added five games, including Super Mario Bros., to the modded Super Famicom Classic Mini. He resold the consoles for 61,500 yen each. Miyamoto has been charged under the Copyright Act for infringing the copyright of Nintendo and four other companies.

You probably wouldn’t be arrested for modding consoles in other countries, but this is the state of Japan’s copyright laws, which are very tough on the average man. Earlier this year, Japanese video game bar owners were arrested for allowing customers to play video games.

What do you think?
