An interesting report on consumer spending in Japan for April 2020 has raised some eyebrows.
The report from the Asahi newspaper states that consumer spending collapsed in April 2020 due to the coronavirus and state of emergency. However, several products thrived amid the downturn. These include video games, which saw sales increase by two times, electrical services, which increased by 6.3%, and water and sewage services, which increased by 11.5%.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise as Animal Crossing: New Horizons somehow continues to sell over a 100,000 copies every single week in Japan. People are trying to find other ways to entertain themselves as they are not going out as often as before.
