Osaka police have filed charges against a Japanese man living in Miyagi prefecture for reselling a smartphone case style game console that contained Famicom consoles.

According to reports, the man purchased the pirated consoles from an e-commerce website in China and resold them for around 10,000 yen, reaping a 2000 yen to 4000 yen profit for himself. The man sold a total of 10 units. The pirated smartphone case style game console contained 36 games developed and published by companies such as Nintendo and Taito.

The man gave his testimony as follows:

“2 years ago I was struck with an idea to make lots of money to cover my living expenses. Something that could be stocked at a cheap price and sold at a high profit margin. A popular item that could sell many units.”

Both Nintendo and Taito have deemed this as a case of copyright infringement, as there were 8 games installed inside the pirated game console without their permission.
