Japanese Nintendo 3DS And WiiU Eshops Will Stop Accepting Credit Card Payments In January 2022

Nintendo has shared an important piece of news regarding the Japanese 3DS and WiiU eshops.

Starting 18th January 2022, 9 AM JST, the Japanese eshop for the 3DS and WiiU will stop accepting credit card and debit card payments. This news comes a few years after such support was ended for the 3DS and WiiU eshops in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Following the end date, players will only be able to use prepaid eshop cards or by topping the account up via Nintendo’s official website.

Following this trend, it seems it may be only a matter of time before a similar announcement will be made for the North American 3DS and WiiU eshops. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come.
