Japanese Prefecture Considering To Pass Law Restricting Amount Of Time Children Can Play Games

Today we have some very interesting news coming from Kagawa prefecture government in Japan.

Kagawa prefecture’s legislative assembly is mulling a law that would restrict the amount of time children could play video games on a daily basis in order to combat game addiction. NHK reports that the time limits would be enforced on children of high school age and below.

The lawmakers of Kagawa prefecture are considering to limit the play time of children living in Kagawa to 60 minutes daily on weekdays, and 90 minutes daily on weekends and public holidays.

Also under consideration is limiting when children would be able to play video games – high school children aren’t allowed to play after 10pm, while middle school children, elementary school children, and kindergarten children will not be permitted to play after 9pm.

If the law is passed, the responsibility of imposing these limits would fall on parents, guardians, and schools. There’s currently no word on who will be punished and what kind of punishments will be meted out if a child breaks the time limits. Of course, one way of imposing this limits is to use the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app.
