Today, Nintendo of America announced its President and CEO Reggie Fils-Aime is stepping down in April 2019, and sales and marketing head Doug Bowser will take over from there.
Although the news has nothing to do with Japan, it has spread like wildfire there as Japanese fans know about Reggie to a certain extent. And yes, some of them called Reggie “Reggie Kong”, or even “Donkey Kong”.
Here are their reactions to the announcement, if you’re curious:
Ehhhhhhhhh, Reggie-san is quitting Nintendo of America?! Thank you for your hard work (Reggie)!
I didn’t expect Reggie to retire at all!
It’s interesting to see a company where Reggie Kong’s successor is Bowser.
Reggie Kong has retired.. will Nintendo transform (for better or worse)?
The real Donkey Kong Reggie has retired… it’s a sign that times are changing.
Miyamoto-sama! Ahhhh! Stupid!
He did it at the right time before the ship is about to sink.
The Kyoto people’s remote control.
After Iwata passed away this company has become dull and uninteresting.
Thanks, Nintendo.
