Last week, Chinese conglomerate Tencent and The Pokemon Company announced a partnership where a Tencent studio will make a Pokemon game for smartphones.
While most people were happy or neutral with this piece of news, it was a different story in Japan. Many Japanese people showed their displeasure on Twitter and other websites with the collaboration as they didn’t like the fact that Tencent, a Chinese company in China, is working with the Pokemon IP.
Here’s what some said:
“Hope they stop this project.”
“Please cease this project.”
“This is the end of Pokemon”
“A data bug will end this project”
“This is a mistake they shouldn’t have collaborated!”
“Nintendo-san? Why are you regressing in the world?”
“Hey hey.. this isn’t okay at all.”
“Was thinking of buying the new Pokemon game after many years, but after hearing about this I’m not going to buy it anymore.”
“Please stop.”
“..(vomit emoji) I’m feeling like this.”
“If it’s Tencent why is this allowed?”
