Celebrate the April Fools season with this actually real recipe for Brock’s delicious “jelly donuts”.
Binging With Babish is a cooking Youtube channel that specialises in recreating foods from movies, tv shows, video games and more. To celebrate April Fools Day, the channel released a special video featuring the infamous “Jelly Donuts” from the 4kids Pokemon anime dub.
For those unfamiliar, the scene in the 4kids dub involves Brock bringing out some Japanese riceballs (Onigiri) for everyone to eat, only to inexplicably refer to them as “jelly-filled donuts”, even though that’s clearly not what they are. The scene is often used to ridicule 4kids’ questionable localisation decisions, and the quality of their dubs in general.
Although framed very much like an April Fools Day joke, the video actually provides a detailed recipe to follow for donuts that look like Japanese riceballs. Check it out for yourself below:
