Industry insider Liam Robertson has shared what he knows about Nintendo, Microsoft, and PlatinumGames after the recent Scalebound for Switch rumors.
Robertson says both Project Hammer and Scalebound are “unlikely to come back”. He explained Project Hammer was a huge mess, and cancelling Scalebound, a project very personal to the team, was a mutual decision made by Microsoft and PlatinumGames as the Xbox One wasn’t powerful enough to run it to fulfil its vision.
Thus, reviving Scalebound for Nintendo Switch would be akin to stabbing the back of many employees who have left PlatinumGames after the game was canceled. Robertson also believes PlatinumGames couldn’t afford to buy over the Scalebound IP, and neither Microsoft would sell as it would damage their brand.
On the topic of PlatinumGames, Robertson says he has heard a major project was canceled as the studio couldn’t find enough people to work on it, and the studio has many unannounced projects and titles in the works.
Finally, Robertson mentioned both Nintendo and Microsoft are working on “big things”, but did not elaborate what those things are.
