Live-Action Super Mario Bros. Movie Receiving 30th Anniversary Screening In Japan

Following the successful release of the Super Mario Bros. animated film, it seems that it’s less warmly regarded predecessor will also be receiving some attention next month.

September 15th 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of the Japanese release for the live-action Super Mario Bros. film, which was among the earliest videogame adaptation films ever produced. Although wildly inaccurate to the source material, it went on to develop a cult following as a film “so bad it’s good”, both beloved and despised by fans all over the world.

To commemorate this occasion, the film will be receiving a limited re-release in Japanese theaters next month. This restored version of the film will be displayed in 4K resolution, allowing fans in Japan to experience the cult-classic film like never before. More details, including the Japanese voice cast, can be found here.
