Man Arrested In Japan For Selling Modified Switch Consoles

A report has surfaced out of Japan about a man who was arrested for selling illegally modified Switch consoles.

According to the report published by NTV News and translated by Automaton, the 58-year-old man was arrested for violating Japan’s Trademark Act with his actions, which is reportedly a first for the country.

The man would modify Switch consoles to play pirated games, selling them for 28,000 yen each packaged with up to 27 pirated games for buyers to play. The suspect admitted to the charges and is being investigated by the police for other potential violations.

Being the first arrest of its kind in the country, many are wondering whether this may set a new, harsher precedent for Switch piracy in Japan.
